focusing on finance
Company: Bippit
Role: Full time (2023)
Product: App, Web app, design system
Bippit is a financial wellness software that provides financial coaching while promoting financial literacy for organisations. Their product offering caters to companies in the form of employers’ benefits with a focus on relieving financial burdens.
I joined the company at the same time as the second product designer, and the first task we set for ourselves as the design department was to declutter and organise the almost inexistent product documentation. Beginning with the design system, we had to assemble it from scratch, investigating the product offering for hints of what elements and patterns were already in use, to put an order to it. We created a product library that improved both the accessibility and consistency of our UX and UI.
When it came to my work, I was tasked with a UX audit of the product with the scope to document the entire journey of our product and create Bippit's first design blueprint. This was especially significant as before my intervention the company didn’t have a map that detailed the various phases of the users’ journey, and this would aid multiple departments in having a better grasp of our offerings.
While I was busy with documentation it was also my duty to take action based on what I noted in the UX audit: apart from applying all the improvements that came with having a new and seamless design system, I started work on revamping the UI of our product. I redesigned the entire onboarding journey focusing on form design and security, reducing the amount of drop-offs we registered.
But our best efforts came with the redesign of the main interface and screens, with a focus on decluttering the unnecessary, improving accessibility and applying UX best practices. We played with higher contrasts within the existing colour palette to craft a more gentle effect on the eye that would also highlight the more important elements. Because of this, created a UI more contemporary and easier to navigate (as you can see in the before/ after screens below).
some ideas for the future
It has now become a habit of mine, somehow, to expand my work beyond the scope of my role in every company I work for. Happily so.
Bippit is no exception, as I soon became the best of friends with its digital designer, together we sketched an idea to launch Bippit into the future with a rebranding. The 2 of us, set time aside every week to craft a new brand identity that would positively impact marketing and product to begin with. An idea that I would have loved to bring to life.
